Nepal’s newly appointed Home Minister, Om Prakash Aryal, assumed office on Monday after taking the oath before President Ramchandra Paudel. His first decision was to declare national mourning in honor of those who lost their lives during the Gen Z protests.

Aryal announced that the national flag will be flown at half-mast. Each bereaved family will receive Rs 100,000 for funeral expenses, and the government will ensure the bodies are transported to their homes.

At the ministry, Aryal was welcomed by Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi, Inspector General of Police Chandrakuber Khapung, Armed Police Force IGP Raju Aryal, and senior intelligence officials.
