Kathmandu— The mystery surrounding the masked man spotted at Gen Z protests has been resolved. Police investigations confirmed that the individual, clad in black combat gear and carrying a walkie-talkie, is 21-year-old Jenish Maharjan, a member of the “Hami Nepal” team.

Photos and videos of the man had gone viral, sparking allegations of infiltration. However, Hami Nepal coordinator Sudhan Gurung clarified that Jenish has been with the team for 13 years and wore army-gifted combat attire he received during the Jajarkot earthquake relief mission.

According to Gurung, the walkie-talkie was used to coordinate with medical teams and ambulances. Still, police officials noted that operating such communication devices requires legal authorization, which had not been obtained.

Hami Nepal maintained its volunteers were focused on distributing water, providing first aid, and helping the injured during the protests. Yet, Gurung’s visible role in leadership after the protests has fueled further debate.
