The case stems from a complaint filed by Januka Pathak, also known as Shobha from Dhading, who accused Basnet of using indecent language on social media and alleged that obscene messages were sent from a Facebook fan club named after him.
Although the complaint was initially shelved, the District Attorney’s Office on Asoj 5 instructed the police to reopen the investigation. Acting on that directive, Basnet appeared before the bureau today to provide his written statement.
The investigation is being carried out under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, which prohibits publishing or transmitting illegal or indecent content online. Violators can face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to Rs 1,00,000, or both.
