Janakpurdham — Krishna Prasad Yadav, leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party in Madhesh Province, has been appointed the new Chief Minister with the support of a seven-party alliance. The Province Chief Dr. Surendra Labh, appointed him under Article 168(2) of the Constitution.
The alliance—comprising Nepali Congress, JSP, Janamat Party, Maoist Centre, LOSPA, Unified Socialist, and others—submitted the support of 77 members to form the new government.
This development follows the resignation of former Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav of UML on Mangsir 17, who had been appointed earlier under Article 168(3). After the alliance filed petitions, the Supreme Court ordered the then government to seek a vote of confidence within 24 hours, which it failed to secure.
Yadav was appointed under Article 168(2) after the position became vacant.
