Kathmandu — The Supreme Court has ordered the reinstatement of Hitendra Dev Shakya as the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The decision, announced on Monday, came as a setback for Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, who had removed Shakya during the administration led by Sushila Karki.

Shakya challenged his removal in the Supreme Court, and after four years of legal proceedings, the court ruled in his favor, rejecting the government’s dismissal. The decision was issued by a bench comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi and Shrikant Paudel.
Following his reinstatement, Shakya stated that he will focus on developing electricity consumption, distribution, and transmission infrastructure; facilitating private sector participation in energy production and distribution; and enhancing energy security.
