Kathmandu—In India, a family found hidden treasure worth ₹2 lakh during their Diwali cleaning.

According to a viral Reddit post, the user’s mother discovered old ₹2,000 currency notes carefully tucked inside an old DTH (Direct-to-Home TV) box while cleaning their home ahead of the festival.

“The biggest Diwali cleaning of 2025!” the post read. “My mom found ₹2 lakh in ₹2,000 notes hidden inside our old DTH box—probably placed there by my dad during demonetization. We still haven’t told him yet,” the user wrote.

The post quickly went viral as people flooded the comments with jokes and surprise. One user wrote, “God, please bless me with so much money that I forget where I hid it.”

Others reminded that ₹2,000 notes, though withdrawn from circulation, can still be exchanged at Reserve Bank of India (RBI) offices. RBI had announced in May 2023 that the ₹2,000 denomination would be pulled from circulation, and 98% of such notes have already been returned.
