Kathmandu – The United States has welcomed Nepal’s peaceful resolution to recent unrest and expressed its readiness to cooperate in preparations for fresh elections under the interim government.
The statement was made three days after Sushila Karki was appointed interim prime minister. The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu praised President Ram Chandra Paudel, youth leaders, and Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel for their roles in ensuring a democratic solution.
China also congratulated Prime Minister Karki. Spokesperson Mao Ning of the Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Beijing’s respect for Nepal’s independent development path and commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations, highlighting Nepal’s democratic resilience and calling Karki’s appointment as the country’s first woman prime minister a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment. Modi praised the youth for their civic efforts in cleaning and restoring streets after the protests, describing it as a sign of Nepal’s renewal.
Congratulations also poured in from Bangladesh, Pakistan, the European Union, Finland, the United Nations, the UK, and Japan, all welcoming Nepal’s democratic transition and the interim government’s role in preparing for fresh elections.
