Kathmandu – The dispute between CPN-UML leader and former minister Mahesh Basnet and Shobha Pathak has intensified. The situation has worsened for Basnet after Shobha decided to pursue further legal action regarding her complaints of cybercrime and death threats.

The charges she filed are currently under consideration by both the court and the police. However, the police have been reluctant to proceed with the investigation based on her complaint. The court has indirectly instructed the police to accept the complaint and move the case forward.

Shobha has filed charges including cybercrime, rape, abortion, attempted murder, and defamation. Basnet has claimed that all these accusations are part of a character assassination campaign against him. In response, Basnet had previously filed a cybercrime complaint against Shobha, leading to her detention.

Recently, Shobha wrote:

“I’ll be at the Cyber Bureau exactly at 10 o’clock. I’m going. The fact that he hasn’t been arrested and is freely roaming around puts my life in danger. If someone files a complaint against me, I get arrested within two hours, but Mahesh Basnet is let off freely—what kind of law is this? I’m going to meet Navindra Aryal, the head of the Cyber Bureau, and stage a sit-in protest. In a country where justice is denied even when begged for, who among you will raise your voice for justice?”
