Aqil was found dead at his residence in Panchkula on October 16. While the family initially claimed it was due to a drug overdose, a video recorded by Aqil before his death surfaced, in which he accused his family of plotting to kill him. In the video, he also alleged an illicit relationship between his father and his wife.

Aqil further claimed he was subjected to mental and physical harassment, forced rehabilitation, and denied business access. His neighbor, Shamsuddin, complained to the Panchkula Police, accusing the former DGP and his family of being involved in his death.

Based on the complaint and the viral video, police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and conspiracy. DCP Srishti Gupta confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an ACP-rank officer has been formed to ensure an impartial probe. “We are analyzing all scientific evidence, including viscera samples, and will determine the exact cause of death after the reports arrive,” she said.
