A FlyDubai flight has been diverted to Lucknow, while a Korean Air flight was rerouted to Delhi. Meanwhile, aircraft from Qatar Airways (from Doha) and Nepal Airlines (from Delhi) are still circling in Kathmandu airspace awaiting clearance.
Airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa said a technical team is currently repairing the runway lighting issue. He confirmed that the issue has been partially resolved, but it will take more time to fully resume operations.
The disruption has led to the cancellation of more than a dozen domestic flights operated by Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air, and Shree Airlines. Many night-time domestic flights have also been halted, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at the airport.
In addition, Buddha Air’s Janakpur flight was turned back, and another flight from Surkhet was diverted to Pokhara. SpiceJet also canceled its scheduled Delhi–Kathmandu service for today due to the runway problem.
