Kathmandu- The government is preparing to reduce federal civil service posts by 20 percent. A meeting of secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal on Tuesday reached a preliminary agreement on the matter.

Currently, there are more than 51,000 civil servants at the federal level. A 20 percent cut would reduce this number by about 10,000.

According to one of the participating secretaries, the downsizing will affect ministries, commissions, secretariats, and offices. The proposal will be prepared by Asoj 20 and submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval.
