Kathmandu—Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Gyanbahadur (Gyanendra) Shahi was removed from the Everest Hotel in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, after reportedly conducting an unauthorized interview and causing a disturbance, according to sources and hotel management.

Shahi arrived at the hotel around 12:30 p.m. and, by about 1:00 p.m., began recording an interview with several YouTubers. At the time, the hotel restaurant was crowded with foreign tourists and other guests, and seating areas were occupied. When hotel staff requested prior permission, Shahi identified himself as a parliament member and refused to comply.

After a brief exchange, Shahi was escorted out. A bystander at the scene remarked sarcastically, “The parliament isn’t in session; which MPs are these?”

What Shahi said:

A murderer who forced actress Shrisha Karki to commit suicide by entering her bathroom, taking nude photos, and publishing them in a newspaper has now started an online magazine to feed his stomach. Today (Tuesday), a Hotel Everest employee wrote a story about a simple discussion with a journalist from Breakline Media, saying, “Let’s not shoot the video of the interview this way. Let’s shoot it that way.” If you have evidence, present the hotel employee who threatened me and dragged me out. I will come wherever you call. It is an open challenge. Otherwise, don’t kill someone else’s character to feed your stomach. You became a cadre of UML Chairman KP Oli and became the chairman of the Press Council, but even your wife and daughter cannot read your thoughts and your writings. They say that journalists are the fourth pillar of the nation. But in the name of journalism, those who do shoddy work by making weapons to feed their stomachs cannot be called journalists. These are criminals of society.

Sources indicate Shahi had previously caused similar disturbances at the same hotel with YouTubers. Following the incident, hotel management decided to monitor his future visits.
