Kathmandu-Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s personal security has been entrusted to DSP Nishan Thapa. IGP Chandrakuber Khapung decided to assign Thapa for the Prime Minister’s protection.
President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Karki as Prime Minister under Article 61 of the Constitution, following the sentiments of the Gen-Z protests. Karki took her oath at Shital Niwas and plans to operate from Baluwatar, where the main residence remained unharmed during the protests.
After Gen-Z demonstrations escalated on September 24, former PM KP Sharma Oli resigned, paving the way for Karki’s appointment. The President tasked her with ensuring a smooth transition and conducting elections within six months.
DSP Nishan Thapa, who has previously held sensitive security positions, will oversee all aspects of the Prime Minister’s personal and public safety.
