Kathmandu- A doctor’s wife in Gwalior has become the victim of an online sextortion scam that began with a simple WhatsApp “hi.” The fraudster posed as an engineer from the UK, lured her into a romantic relationship, extorted money under the guise of sending gifts, and eventually leaked her private videos online.

The 34-year-old woman received the first message on August 17. Claiming to have found her number on Instagram, the scammer gradually turned the chat into a romantic relationship and persuaded her to share private videos.

Later, he claimed to have sent parcels containing gifts and dollars from London. Demands for payments followed: GST, permit card, courier fees, and receipt charges. The woman ended up transferring ₹3.76 lakh Indian rupees across multiple accounts. When she refused to pay an additional ₹2.85 lakh Indian rupees, her nude videos were leaked on September 17.

Shocked, she confided in her brother, who helped her file a police complaint. The Cyber Cell has registered a case and launched an investigation. Police confirmed that the fraudsters used multiple phone numbers and bank accounts, and technical clues are being traced to identify the accused.
