Kathmandu – In protest against the arrest of Durga Prasai, the Citizens’ Protection Party has announced that it will begin agitation programs starting today. Although demonstrations had been scheduled for Mangsir 7 (November 22), party leaders said they will now take to the streets immediately in response to Prasai’s arrest.
General Secretary Prem Kumar Thamsuhang told “Our leader Durga Prasai was arrested at midnight in an abduction-style manner, and the government itself has disturbed the peace. Therefore, without waiting until Mangsir 7, we are launching a nationwide movement starting today.”

A joint team from the Kathmandu District Police Office and the Valley Crime Investigation Bureau arrested Prasai from his residence in Bhaktapur late Monday night. Previously, he had been arrested after the violent protests of Chaitra 15 but was released on court orders. Involved in pro-monarchy activities, Prasai had been preparing for protests from Mangsir 7, demanding, among other things, the cancellation of loans taken from banks.
Police sources said he was arrested at midnight on charges of making inflammatory statements that could incite violence. In protest, Thamsuhang stated that the party will first submit a memorandum to the District Administration Office today and then begin nationwide demonstrations. “We had registered the party and were moving forward toward elections. Our activities were peaceful, but it is the government that disrupted peace,” he said. “We will draw attention at the CDO office today.”
