Kathmandu: Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has stepped down as chair of the Nepal Socialist Party (Naya Shakti). He announced the decision at the party’s Central Committee meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting dissolved the existing committee and formed a General Convention Organizing Committee under Vice-Chair Durga Sob. According to spokesperson Krishna Sharma, Bhattarai “relinquished” rather than resigned.

Elected in Magh 2080, Bhattarai came under fire after the Bhadra 23–24 Gen Z uprising, which saw his residence torched. Amid rising pressure, he stepped down on moral grounds.
