Kathmandu – A cargo aircraft has crashed in the United States. According to CNN, USPS Flight 2976 crashed on Tuesday at 5:15 PM local time in Louisville, Kentucky. The crash resulted in the deaths of four people, including three crew members.

The plane had departed from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport en route to Honolulu, Hawaii. Shortly after takeoff, one of its wings caught fire. Moments later, the aircraft exploded and crashed into an area with industrial buildings. Reuters reported that the surrounding structures also caught fire.

Louisville Mayor Greenberg shared on social media that at least 19 people on the ground were injured. In addition to the crew members, one of the deceased was a local resident of the area.

Some of the injured are in critical condition, and the death toll may rise. Authorities have advised people within an 8-kilometer radius of the crash site to remain safe. According to BBC, the cargo plane was carrying 38,000 gallons of fuel—approximately 144,000 liters.

An investigation into the crash has begun. Reuters also reported that the aircraft was a 34-year-old MD-11 Freighter model, originally manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, which later merged with Boeing. Boeing expressed condolences and stated it would provide technical support in the investigation.
