U.S. President Donald Trump broke a 64-year presidential precedent by personally traveling to Joint Base Andrews to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping as he arrived in the United States.
Xi arrived Wednesday for a three-day U.S. visit, with Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greeting Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, during a welcoming ceremony at the Maryland air base.
The last U.S. president documented as welcoming a foreign leader at Andrews was John F. Kennedy, who greeted British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan there in 1962.
