A powerful flash flood swept through Arizona’s Grand Canyon over the weekend, killing at least one person and leaving about 15 people missing. Officials said the body of a 46-year-old man was found near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River.
The flood destroyed most footbridges across Bright Angel Creek and damaged the canyon’s only water pipeline, leading to emergency water restrictions. Tourists have also been barred from staying at lodges and hotels inside the park as forecasters warn of more rain and possible flooding.
