Rasuwa Flood Horror: 229 Unidentified Bodies to Be Buried Without Family Viewing

Pressadda

Kathmandu – Following the devastating flood in Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi on August 26 (10th of Bhadra), authorities have decided to bury 229 unidentified bodies in Devghat, Chitwan starting today.

According to the Chitwan District Administration Office, a total of 233 bodies were collected, of which only 8 have been identified. The remaining 229 are currently stored in holding centers and health institutions.

Officials stated that before burial, DNA samples will be collected from all bodies and recorded with reference numbers. Health experts warned that failing to manage the decomposing bodies could trigger outbreaks of infection and epidemics. The District Security Committee decided to proceed under the Body Management Directive 2083, with burials taking place at an open site in Bharatpur–9, Devghat.
