Netra Bikram Chand “Biplav,” General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), has expressed full support for the ongoing protest against the government’s decision to dissolve student organizations. He has urged student groups to move forward with the movement in a more organized and stronger manner.
On Sunday, sharing his views through Facebook, Biplav described the government’s move as a sign of authoritarian tendencies. According to him, student organizations play a vital role in spreading awareness in society, raising voices against injustice, and leading change. He also mentioned that students have historically played a leading role in ending authoritarian rule in Nepal.
In this context, he warned that any attempt to create pressure against the very forces that contributed to the current change and formation of the government could ultimately backfire against the government itself. He stated that suppressing the forces that made change possible would weaken the foundation of the government.
