Nagdhunga Tunnel in Final Stage of Preparation, Set to Open by Baisakh — Toll Rates Determined

Pressadda

Prakash Kafle / Kathmandu. The Nagdhunga Tunnel, constructed with a large investment of around NPR 28 billion, has now reached the final stage of preparation for operation. If all procedures are completed on time, it is almost certain that the tunnel will be opened to the public by the month of Baisakh. This project is expected to make travel to and from the Kathmandu Valley faster, safer, and more convenient.

Toll fees have been determined based on the type of vehicle using the tunnel. For entry toward Kathmandu, cars and vans will be charged NPR 65, while minibuses, tippers, and small trucks will have to pay NPR 115. Similarly, buses and medium-sized trucks will be charged NPR 260, and large trucks will be charged NPR 600.

Similarly, when exiting Kathmandu, the toll rates have been set slightly differently. A lower fee will be charged for cars and vans, while minibuses, trucks, and tippers will be charged NPR 80. Buses and medium-sized trucks will have to pay NPR 200, and heavy trucks will be charged NPR 250.

From an economic perspective, it is estimated that the tunnel will generate around NPR 1 million in revenue daily. Based on this, the projected monthly income is about NPR 30 million, and the annual revenue is expected to reach approximately NPR 650 million.

Overall, once the Nagdhunga Tunnel comes into operation, it is expected to reduce traffic congestion along the Kathmandu–Naubise road section, shorten travel time, save fuel, and improve road safety.
