U.S. Attack on Iran’s Kharg Island: Military Targets Hit, Oil Infrastructure Spared

Pressadda

Kathmandu. The United States has attacked military facilities located on Kharg Island, Iran’s extremely important oil export hub. According to a U.S. official, these attacks were focused purely on military targets, not on oil-related infrastructure. U.S. Vice President JD Vance, acknowledging the recent strikes, stated that this step does not change American strategy. He made this statement ahead of the deadline set by President Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian sources, preliminary assessments conducted after the attacks indicate that the main oil transportation infrastructure on Kharg Island remained largely intact. State-affiliated media, citing local sources, reported that most structures are operating normally.

According to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency, the island’s maritime infrastructure—which handles about 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports—suffered minimal damage, and there has been no major disruption to operations.

Earlier, the United States Central Command had conducted attacks on approximately 90 targets on Kharg Island in March. These included naval mine storage sites, missile storage bunkers, and other military facilities.

Kharg Island, located near Iran’s coast, is like a lifeline for the country’s economy, as roughly 90 percent of its crude oil exports pass through this island.
