Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. The CPN (UML) has announced a series of nationwide protest programs demanding the immediate release of its party chairman and former Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli. Following Mr. Oli’s arrest early Saturday morning, the party’s Secretariat held an emergency meeting, characterizing the detention as a politically motivated move. The leadership resolved to challenge the arrest through both rigorous legal defense and sustained political pressure on the streets.
According to the official schedule released by the party, mass demonstrations led by various sister organizations are set to take place at 3:00 PM today across all district headquarters. The protests are expected to escalate tomorrow, Chaitra 15, starting at 12:00 PM, when district committees will lead rallies to submit formal protest letters to their respective Chief District Officers.
The CPN-UML has labeled the government’s action an assault on democratic values and the rule of law. In a bid to broaden the movement, the party has reached out to civil society and other political factions to form a united front against what they describe as executive overreach. The Secretariat emphasized that the agitation will continue until their chairman is released and the political bias behind the arrest is addressed.
