Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Authorities in Rasuwa have apprehended five individuals in two separate incidents involving smuggling and drug trafficking. In a surprising misuse of essential services, four people were caught using an Ambulance belonging to the Gatlang Health Post to smuggle Chinese cigarettes. The vehicle was intercepted at the Betrawati security checkpoint while heading toward Kathmandu under the guise of transporting a patient. Upon inspection, police recovered 3,940 packets of illicit Chinese cigarettes hidden inside the ambulance. The arrested individuals include the driver, 43-year-old Dawa Nurpu Tamang, along with Markus Tamang, Sushil Tamang, and Sunita Tamang.
In a separate enforcement action at the Rasuwa-Gadhi border point, security forces arrested 24-year-old Bikas Tamang. He was found in possession of 2 grams of black hashish and 12 capsules of controlled substances while entering Nepal from Kerung. A joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force conducted the arrest. District Police Office Rasuwa confirmed that legal proceedings and further investigations are underway for both cases.
