Dipendra Singh Airee Signs with JB Bruges for EU T20 League

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu.  Nepal national team vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee has been signed by JB Bruges for the upcoming EU T20 League in Belgium. The franchise secured him ahead of the official draft. He joins the squad as the third overseas player, alongside Colin Munro and South African batter Rassie van der Dussen. JB Bruges is owned by Dream Sports, the same investment group associated with Janakpur Bolts in the Nepal Premier League. The EU T20 League marks Belgium’s first franchise-based cricket tournament, organized by the Belgian Cricket Federation in partnership with Destino Legends Sports The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 6 to June 14, with an estimated budget of around $1 million for its inaugural season. A total of six franchises representing major Belgian cities will compete.

The format includes a round-robin league stage followed by playoffs for the top four teams. Participating teams include JB Bruges, Antwerp Anchors, Brussels, Ghent, Leuven, and Liege Red Lions. The Antwerp franchise is owned by former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan. Each team will consist of 18 players, including a mix of Belgian players, associate nation players, active international cricketers from full-member nations, and experienced veteran players. Former England captain Eoin Morgan has been appointed as the global brand ambassador. Other notable international players expected to feature include James Vince, Alex Hales, Angelo Mathews, and Wanindu Hasaranga. The player draft is set to take place on March 24 in Brussels, where teams will complete their squads. Reports suggest that more than 15 Nepali players have registered for the draft.
