Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, an airstrike has reportedly occurred near a battalion headquarters where Nepali peacekeepers are stationed in Lebanon.The incident took place on Friday near the Blue Line in the Al-Jabel area of southeastern Lebanon, where Nepali troops are deployed under a United Nations peacekeeping mission.
According to several international media outlets citing Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, an explosive projectile landed within the vicinity of the Nepali peacekeeping camp. However, there have been no reports of casualties among the personnel.
A spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres confirmed that the United Nations is aware of the incident and said that further details will be released after additional information is gathered.
The Israeli military has not issued an immediate statement regarding the event.
Nepal Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet confirmed the occurrence, stating that the incident resulted only in minor structural damage.
He explained that an unidentified object struck a building inside the Nepali battalion headquarters. The origin and circumstances of the strike are still unclear, and the United Nations is expected to conduct an investigation.
At the time of the incident, Nepali peacekeepers were inside bunkers as part of routine security measures, which prevented any human casualties.
The impacted building reportedly caught fire briefly but the blaze was later extinguished, and no additional damage was recorded.
The attack comes amid escalating regional tensions. On February 28, the United States and Israel reportedly carried out a joint strike in Iran that killed several senior figures, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Following that development, the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah has been launching attacks on Israel from Lebanese territory. In response, the United States and Israel have intensified military operations in Lebanon in recent days.
