Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Popular Nepali comedian Kedar Ghimire has made a satirical remark on social media regarding the recent election results in Kathmandu Constituency-3.
In a brief statement, he wrote:
“Remembered when the lights go out, forgotten when elections arrive — what is the four-letter word?”
Many people have interpreted the statement as a reference to the election outcome in the constituency, where the panel led by Kulman Ghising of the Ujyaalo Nepal Party was defeated. Ghising is widely known for his role in helping end Nepal’s long-standing power cuts.
According to the election results, the panel led by Rajiv Nath Poudel won the race in Kathmandu-3. Poudel secured 18,756 votes, while Ghising received 11,171 votes.
Ghising had gained nationwide recognition for leading efforts that helped eliminate power outages that once lasted up to 18 hours a day in Nepal. Ghimire’s statement is widely being discussed online as a sarcastic reflection on how public memory can shift during elections.
