Rajan Bhattarai Says He Won’t Contest Again from Kathmandu-4 After Likely Third Defeat

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Rajan Bhattarai, Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), has announced that he will no longer contest elections from Kathmandu Constituency-4 in the future. He shared the decision through a message on social media. Bhattarai’s statement comes as the ongoing vote count indicates he may face a third consecutive defeat in the constituency. He had previously contested from the same seat in the 2017 and 2022 parliamentary elections, where he was defeated by Gagan Thapa of the Nepali Congress. Accepting the likely outcome, Bhattarai said that in a democracy the people’s mandate is the ultimate authority. He added that he fully respects the election results and congratulated the winning candidate.

He also clarified that, as a personal decision, he will not run as a candidate from Kathmandu-4 in any future elections.
