16,000 Nepalis Register Online in a Single Day Amid West Asia Tensions

Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. As security concerns escalate across West Asia, nearly 16,000 Nepali nationals have registered their details within just one day of the government launching an online data collection system. The Consular Service Department under Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced the online portal on Tuesday, urging Nepalis living in West Asian countries to submit their personal and contact information. Officials reported a strong response within the first 24 hours of its operation.

According to the ministry, efforts are underway to make the registration system more user-friendly and accessible. Nepali missions abroad have been directed to coordinate with local Nepali communities, organizations, and the Non-Resident Nepali Association to ensure wider dissemination of information. The collected data will help authorities assess the type and urgency of assistance that may be required if the situation deteriorates further.

Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise between Israel, United States, and Iran, with ongoing aerial strikes and missile attacks reported in the region. Iran has reportedly targeted U.S. military bases stationed in parts of West Asia, intensifying regional instability. An estimated 1.7 million Nepalis are believed to be living and working across various West Asian nations, heightening concerns over their safety.

In response, the government has formed an Emergency Response Team (ERT) led by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai to closely monitor developments and coordinate necessary actions. The team held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss preparedness measures and possible response strategies.
