Kathmandu – The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has faced a setback in Kathmandu–5 just ahead of the elections. A few days ago, former RSP candidate for the House of Representatives, Pranay Rana, resigned, and today 14 leaders and members submitted their collective resignation, creating a difficult situation for the party in the constituency.

On Friday, 14 members, including the founding regional coordinator of Kathmandu–5, resigned, alleging that instead of correcting irregularities, the party has increased them. In their resignation letter, they accused the leadership of financial misconduct during the candidate selection process. They also stated that the party has undermined the aspiration of building the nation in an environment of democracy and good governance, and that local activities of the party have hurt them, leading to their resignation effective immediately.

Those resigning include founding regional coordinator Madhusudhan Dhwaj Khadka, municipal representative of Budhanilkantha–3 Ram Shrestha, ward no. 3’s Jaya Shrestha, ward no. 4 members Samip Ghale and Kabi Thapamagar. Similarly, Budhanilkantha–7’s Pratibha Sedhai, ward member Kiran Thapa, Tokha RSP member Chiranjeevi Adhikari, accounts members Sirjana Basnet and Shobha Subedi, and ward no. 4 members Prabhat Maharjan, Rajesh Thapa, and Anjana Bogati.

They are considered close to former RSP candidate Pranay Rana, who recently joined the Nepali Congress. This development is seen as a blow to RSP ahead of the elections.
