Kathmandu – The government has decided to grant three days of holiday during the election. At a meeting held on Tuesday, the Council of Ministers made this decision, according to government spokesperson and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Election Commission had recommended to the government that three days of holiday be given for the election. The commission suggested holidays on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd.
Voting for the House of Representatives election will take place on Falgun 21. With this, there will effectively be a week‑long holiday during the election period. This year, Holi falls on Falgun 18 in the hills and Falgun 19 in the Terai. On the 23rd (Saturday) and 24th (Sunday), International Women’s Day will also be observed.
Thus, overall, the election period will coincide with a full week of holidays.
