Kathmandu: Dinesh Adhikari Danuwar, Mayor of Dudhauli Municipality in Sindhuli, has been taken into custody by the District Police Office, Sindhuli, on charges of raping a teenage girl. According to SP Lal Dhoj Subedi, the mayor has been detained and an investigation has begun.
The complaint was filed last Baisakh by an 18-year-old girl, who stated that she was raped at the age of 17 by the mayor while working at a hotel in Dudhauli Municipality. The complaint further mentioned that she became pregnant and later gave birth to a child.
Police confirmed that the girl gave birth in Falgun 2081, after which the incident became public. Although the investigation had started following the complaint, the mayor had been absconding. On Tuesday, he appeared at the District Police Office himself. SP Subedi stated that the mayor has now been kept in custody for investigation.
