Kathmandu: The case against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) president Rabi Lamichhane regarding money laundering and organized crime will not be withdrawn immediately. On Monday, during the hearing on the petition to withdraw the case, the bench of Judge Nitish Rai at the Kaski District Court ordered that the case will not be withdrawn for now.
On January 14, Attorney General Sabita Bhandari had decided to withdraw the case against Lamichhane and issued a circular to the District Government Attorney’s Office. Based on that, the Kaski District Government Attorney’s Office filed a petition at the district court to withdraw the case. However, the court ordered that a decision will only be made after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on the matter.

Against the Attorney General’s decision to withdraw the case, Yubaraj Paudel (Yubaraj Safal) filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on January 16. During the hearing, Attorney General Bhandari stated that new evidence had been found after the case was registered, which led to the withdrawal decision. The Supreme Court then ordered submission of the additional evidence, after which the hearing will continue. Lamichhane faces cases in Kathmandu, Kaski, Chitwan, Rupandehi, and other districts.”
