Forensic Evidence Confirms Deepfake

The Office of the Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra State Cyber Department, conducted a forensic analysis of the footage. Despite malicious rumors and clickbait headlines claiming the existence of a “19-minute” or even a “40-minute” version, authorities and fact-checkers identified that the primary circulated clip was approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds in length.

In an official statement, authorities confirmed, “It has been confirmed that the video has been tampered with and modified with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The person in the video is NOT Payal Dhare.”

Legal Action and Criminal Charges

The Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered FIR No. 52/2025, invoking several stringent sections of Indian law to track down those responsible for the creation and distribution of the video:

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): Sections 3(5), 79, and 356(2) related to defamation and criminal conspiracy.

Information Technology (IT) ActSection 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) ActSections 3 and 4 for the malicious portrayal of the influencer.

Warning to Social Media Users

Police officials have issued a stern warning to the public, stating that anyone found sharing, downloading, or facilitating the spread of the hoax will be held liable under Section 67 of the IT Act, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and significant fines for first-time offenders

Truth Stands“: Payal Gaming Responds

Taking to Instagram to update her millions of followers, Dhare expressed her gratitude for the swift police intervention. “Truth stands. Justice follows,” she stated, emphasizing the mental toll the scandal had taken on her and her family. She urged her community to report any further instances of the video rather than engaging with it.

The investigation is currently underway as cyber experts work to trace the digital origins of the deepfake. This case is being cited as a landmark instance of law enforcement using forensic AI analysis to protect digital creators from emerging cyber threats.
