Kathmandu — The Nepali Congress has decided not to repeat candidates elected through the proportional representation (PR) system in the upcoming House of Representatives election. The decision was taken by the party’s Central Working Committee meeting held on Mangsir 15, in line with the party statute that prohibits consecutive PR nominations.

According to a circular issued by Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel, individuals elected through the PR system in the 2079 federal or provincial elections will not be recommended again. As a result, all 32 Nepali Congress lawmakers elected through the proportional system in 2022 will be excluded from the upcoming PR list.
The affected lawmakers are Saraswoti Bajimaya, Kalpana Chaudhary, Liladevi Vokhim, Sarita Prasain, Maya Rai, Bimalendra Nidhi, Sangeeta Mandal, Manju Khan, Chanda Chaudhary, Nagina Yadav, Mukta Kumari Yadav, Sita Mijar, Anjani Shrestha, Ambika Basnet, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Pratima Gautam, Sushila Thing, Rama Koirala Paudyal, Sapana Rajbhandari, Shanti Bik, Bina Kumar Thanet, Jeevan Pariyar, Manorama Sherchan, Asha Bik, Jabeda Khatun Jaga, Rupa Bik, Kumum Thapa Magar, Maina Rawal Karki, Sita Kumari Rana, Kantika Sejuwal, Ishwori Nyaupane, and Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.
The party stated that the move is aimed at creating space for new leadership and broader representation. Lower-level committees have been instructed to submit candidate recommendations to the central office by the end of the Mangsir month.
