Kathmandu-Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav resigned on Wednesday after realizing he could not secure the vote of confidence mandated by the Supreme Court. The court had ordered him to prove his majority within 24 hours, but Yadav announced in the Provincial Assembly that he had no numbers to survive.

As seven parties, including the Nepali Congress, boycotted the session, Yadav accused his former allies of abandoning him at a critical moment. He claimed he had worked effectively for the people despite taking office under difficult circumstances.

Yadav also criticized Madhesh-based parties for shrinking the province’s economy through opportunistic politics and said voters would deliver their verdict in the next election. He reiterated that he stood firmly for the people of Madhesh.
