Kathmandu— The delegate selection process for the CPN-UML’s 11th General Convention turned violent in Biratnagar after clashes broke out between the KP Oli faction and the Ishwar Pokharel faction.
Outside the party office in Panchali, Pokharel-aligned cadres reportedly assaulted Oli camp leader Parshuram Basnet. The clash began when establishment leaders objected to claims that the same individual was being repeatedly taken to vote by local leader Bhanu Bhakta Pathak.
Supporters of Vinod Dhakal, seen as close to Pokharel, were involved in the attack. Tension in the voting area escalated following the incident.
