Kathmandu — The Supreme Court has ordered Durga Prasai to appear in court after his son filed a habeas corpus petition claiming he was being held illegally.
A bench led by Justice Meghraj Pokharel directed authorities to justify his detention and produce him in court. Prasai was arrested at midnight at his Bhaktapur residence on charges of disturbing public peace.
Before his arrest, Prasai had threatened a nationwide protest starting from Bhadra 7, vowing to disrupt transportation and other sectors. He also warned the officials of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) of stopping the Nepal Premier League (NPL), citing threats to national prestige.
He is currently held at the Kathmandu District Police Office.
