Kathmandu – Ahead of the Falgun 21 parliamentary elections, Nepal has decided to recruit 130,000 temporary police personnel to secure the polls. The Central Security Committee approved the integrated election security plan during a meeting on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, IGP Dan Bahadur Karki, Armed Police IG Raju Aryal, Director of National Investigation Department Tekendra Karki, and military representatives.
The security plan involves three security rings: the first by the police, the second by the armed police, and the third by the army. Frontline deployment of personnel across rings does not require additional orders if needed.
The committee emphasized vigilance before, during, and after the elections, highlighting the main security threats as groups not participating in the polls and weapons stored outside barracks.
Provincial-level security workshops targeting election preparedness will begin in Lumbini Province on Mangsir 9.
