Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has accused the Nitish Kumar–led Bihar government of diverting ₹14,000 crore from a World Bank fund for election-related handouts. Party president Uday Singh claimed that from June until the election announcement, the government spent nearly ₹40,000 crore on what he described as “buying votes” through cash transfers and free schemes.
Referring to the “Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana,” under which ₹10,000 was transferred to women’s bank accounts, Singh said the payments continued even a day before voting despite the Model Code of Conduct. He argued that without such spending, the ruling NDA might not have retained power.
Party leader Pavan Varma further alleged that ₹21,000 crore from a World Bank fund meant for another project may have been rerouted to finance these transfers. He told ANI that ₹14,000 crore was withdrawn just an hour before the Model Code came into force.
The Bihar government and NDA leaders have yet to respond.
In the final results, the NDA swept the 2025 Bihar Assembly election with 202 out of 243 seats, while the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan managed only 35. Voter turnout crossed 66%, the highest since 1951.
