Kathmandu. The net profit of Nepal’s national-level development banks has fallen sharply by 52.35 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. According to the financial statements published by seven development banks, their combined profit stands at Rs 695.2 million, down from Rs 1.45 billion in the same period last year.

Among them, Lumbini Bikas Bank reported a loss of Rs 340 million, making it the only bank in the red this quarter. On the other hand, Garima Bikas Bank posted the highest profit of Rs 250 million among all development banks.
However, the average Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio of these banks has increased notably. Previously, the average NPL was 4 percent, but it has now risen to 5.57 percent. Lumbini Bikas Bank and Jyoti Bikas Bank have the highest NPL ratios of 7.78 percent and 7.97 percent, respectively.

In terms of Earnings Per Share (EPS), Kamana Sewa Bikas Bank leads the list with an EPS of Rs 20.46, followed by Garima (Rs 17.64), Shine (Rs 16.66), Muktinath (Rs 12.76), Mahalaxmi (Rs 9.08), and Jyoti (Rs 6.4). Meanwhile, Lumbini Bikas Bank has recorded a negative EPS of Rs –9.62.
