Kathmandu: Scientists have discovered that the process of dying begins nearly two weeks before actual death occurs. While many deaths appear sudden, research shows that the human body starts showing subtle signs long before the final moment.

According to Dr. Seamus Coyle, Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool, “The dying process starts about two weeks before the heart stops beating.”

He explained that during this period, a person’s health deteriorates rapidly, making it difficult to walk, eat, or even take medication. As death approaches, the body’s vital systems begin to slow down and eventually shut down.

Some people experience this process within a few days, while others may remain on the brink of death for one to two weeks.

Research also suggests that the brain releases endorphins and other chemicals near death, possibly helping the body to cope with pain or stress.

Dr. Coyle added, “As people near death, stress chemicals increase, the body may swell, and energy levels drop significantly. But no two deaths are the same.”

Although the exact moment of death remains mysterious, scientists believe understanding these signs can help families and caregivers prepare emotionally and medically for the inevitable.
