Dr. Shrestha explained, “Sex during menstruation is possible, but women should be extra careful about their health. It may increase bleeding and menstrual pain.”

She further added that menstruation should not be considered a safe period because ovulation timing can vary, meaning pregnancy can still occur. Using condoms or other contraceptives is highly recommended to avoid unwanted conception.

Dr. Shrestha also dismissed the myth that period sex is always safe, saying, “Since ovulation cannot be predicted accurately, no time can be considered completely safe.”

Her remarks encourage women to be more aware of their bodies and promote open, educated discussions on sexual and reproductive health. The statement has since sparked mixed reactions on social media.
