Kathmandu-CPN (Unified Socialist) Politburo member Dharm Niraula has said that senior leader Jhalanath Khanal should now step down from leadership. Speaking to the media ahead of a meeting to form a new party following the decision to merge with the Maoists, Niraula said the party should move forward under the leadership of General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal.

He proposed that Khanal remain as the party’s patron while Bhusal take charge as coordinator. Niraula added that the party will launch a campaign to reorganize all communist forces and announce its position through a national gathering within a week.

Meanwhile, party leaders, including Jhalanath Khanal, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Ramkumari Jhakri, Jibanram Shrestha, and Vijay Paudel, held discussions in Sukedhara to finalize the next political strategy. Approximately 84 leaders attended the meeting.
