Jyoti Pal, a 26-year-old woman from Dehradun, gave birth to a child via cesarean section. A few weeks later, she began experiencing severe abdominal pain. However, doctors dismissed it as normal and ignored her complaints. As the pain became unbearable, she sought help at another hospital. There, it was discovered that a large piece of surgical gauze—used to absorb blood during operations—had been left inside her abdomen during the procedure. The wound had been stitched up with the gauze still inside.

The retained gauze led to a severe infection, and by the time it was diagnosed, it was too late to reverse the damage. Jyoti’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and tragically, she passed away.

This incident stands as a grim example of medical negligence within the healthcare system—one that cost a young woman her life far too soon.
