Kathmandu — Police have arrested two more individuals involved in the assault on police constable Uttam Thapa during the Jan G (JEN-G) protest at Maharajgunj Police Station. The arrested are 22-year-old Alish Shrestha from Sindhuli Golanjore and 27-year-old Saurabh Tamang from Rasuwa Uttar Gaya.

CCTV footage shows both accused attacking Constable Thapa. They were taken to Bhadra Kali District Police Office, Kathmandu for further investigation. The footage indicates the assault and vandalism at the police station occurred on Bhadra 24, 2081 BS (September 10, 2024).
During the protest, Milan Rai (constable) and Uttam Thapa lost their lives. Earlier, five others were arrested in connection with the case: 21-year-old Som Gurung from Gorkha, 21-year-old Rajiv Gurung from Tanahun, 21-year-old Yunik Shrestha, 17-year-old Sumit Titung from Sarlahi, and 16-year-old Deepak Magar from Ramechhap.
Four accused were previously sent to prison for trial: Yuvraj Kyapchaki, Sonam Tamang (Buddhilal Thing), Home Prasad Paudel, and Tikaram Bik.
Investigations reveal that Thapa’s killing was carried out by Kyapchaki (28, Roshi Gaun, Kavre) and Thing (21, Thaha Municipality, Makwanpur), while Rai’s murder was done by Paudel (62, Tripurasundari-4, Sindhupalchok) and Tikaram Bik (28, Chaudandi Gadhi-10, Udayapur).
SP Pawan Bhattarai of Kathmandu District Police said a supplementary investigation report against the arrested is underway.
