Kathmandu—In a bizarre yet heart-touching event, a 74-year-old former Indian Air Force veteran, Mohan Lal, from Konchi village in Bihar’s Gaya district, organized his own funeral while still alive to see who would mourn him and how much love he would receive after death.

Lal asked villagers to perform all the rituals, including carrying him in a mock funeral procession with emotional songs playing in the background. The unusual event drew hundreds of villagers, who followed the symbolic procession to the cremation ground.

As the ceremony reached its climax, Mohan Lal suddenly rose from his bier, leaving everyone shocked. A symbolic effigy was burned instead, followed by a community feast.

“I wanted to witness how people would react after my death,” he told local reporters.

Locals praised his social contributions, noting that he had recently built a well-equipped cremation site in the village at his own expense to help people during the monsoon season.

Mohan Lal lost his wife, Jeevan Jyoti, 14 years ago and has two sons and one daughter.
