Kathmandu— The situation of Bipin Joshi, the only Nepali citizen among the 22 still held hostage in Gaza, has come under renewed scrutiny. According to Israeli officials, most of the 22 currently held in Gaza are Israeli citizens, while Bipin is the only non-Israeli.

1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 were kidnapped after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Israel has said that about 25 of them have died and about 20 are still alive.

Bipin, 24, had reached Israel’s Alumim kibbutz on a scholarship to study agriculture. During the attack, he threw a live grenade in an attempt to protect his friends and was then kidnapped.

The remaining 22 hostages are expected to be released within 72 hours under the recently announced ceasefire. Israel is set to release about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in the exchange.

According to the information, Bipin is alive along with Gali Berman, Ziv Berman, Elkanah Bohbot, Rom Braslavsky, Nimrod Cohen, Ariel Cuneo. Similarly, David Cuneo, Evatar David, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Maxim Harkin, Eitan Horn are also there.

According to the AP, Segev Kalfon, Bar Kupershten, Matan Angrest, Omri Miran, Eitan Mor, Tamir Nimrodi, Yosef-Chaim Ohana, Alon Ohel, Avinatan Or and Matan Zangaukar are seen.

Bipin’s 17-year-old sister Pushpa Joshi regularly travels eight hours from home to Kathmandu to meet with officials. The family recently met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and participated in a demonstration in Tel Aviv with other hostage families.
