Kathmandu — Applicants for the U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery will now be required to pay a $1 application fee, according to a new directive from the U.S. Department of State. Previously, submitting the DV application form was free of charge. However, the Federal Register has announced that the fee is being introduced to reduce fraud and distribute administrative costs among all applicants.

This new rule will be implemented starting with the DV-2027 Program, which opens in October 2025. The requirement to submit a valid passport with the application remains unchanged. Additionally, the $330 visa fee payable after selection also remains the same.

How to Pay the Application Fee

The U.S. Department of State has stated that detailed information regarding the fee, payment methods, and applicable countries will be released soon. However, it is important to note that the $1 fee will be paid through the official U.S. government payment portal. The payment option will appear during the online application process, and the form can only be submitted after the fee is paid.

Accepted international payment methods include Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, and American Express. In Nepal, Visa and MasterCard issued by local banks are considered the most reliable and secure. Applicants should check the international transaction limits on their cards in advance to ensure smooth payment.
